Rhodes Scholar
Something special happened in 2010. A past Camberwell Girls Grammar School student became the latest to join an elite circle…
Dr Evelyn Chan was awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship for further study at Oxford University. Established in 1902, the Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international graduate scholarship program in the world.
Evelyn came to Camberwell on an Academic Scholarship and graduated in 2003. Currently at Oxford, she is using her scholarship to study Global Health, focusing on the socio-political and economic aspects of healthcare.
“I hope to leave Oxford well-equipped and supported in my efforts to decrease childhood mortality, catalysing my future aspirations of working for an international organisation such as UNICEF,” Evelyn said.
Prior to attending Oxford, Evelyn was a paediatric registrar at the Royal Women’s Hospital working with critically ill infants. She epitomises all that our School holds dear – strong values, a spirit of service and academic excellence that is used for the betterment of the world in which we live.
